BACKGROUND
Thayer-Bray Construction (TBC), a General Contracting and Development company, was founded in 1968 in Columbus, GA. In addition to specializing in residential and commercial construction and renovation, they also manage multiple residential apartment buildings in five different cities. To date, they have completed over 300 projects - both large and small. Their portfolio includes a balanced mix of private and public work in multiple industries.

THE SITUATION

TBC had selected a new ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) software solution to eliminate the technology bottlenecks that were hindering the effectiveness of both corporate and field personnel. Ascent Consulting was recommended to TBC by the software provider to assist with software setup, configuration, and training of their staff.

THE CHALLENGES

In parallel with the software implementation, TBC engaged Ascent to:

  • Optimize internal processes and systems for accounting and project management
  • Update their roles and responsibilities to align with the software’s inherent structure for data access, functionality and permissions
  • Develop a company Operations and Training Manual to document the optimized processes, systems and workflows

ASCENT DELIVERS

Through a series of on-site and virtual workshops, Ascent walked TBC through multiple departments in the business (Accounting, Company Operations, Project Management and Field Operations). They determined which best-practices should be implemented to optimize workflows, internal accounting procedures, staff roles, and responsibilities. These were also structured to align with the new ERP software and increase efficiency and profitability.

New job narratives and descriptions were developed with TBC to enhance key employees’ understanding of their specific roles and how their responsibilities and workflows fit into the overall success of their projects and the company.

In addition, Ascent developed a training manual that included step-by-step Quick Reference Guides explaining how to use the new ERP software and implement the optimized processes and workflows. In addition, they provided training and support to TBC through the software migration process.

quote

“The team from Ascent took the time to learn our business model and optimize our processes and roles to best align with the new software. Ascent’s ability to synthesize our processes with our new software enabled us to walk through the transition with relative ease. The Company Operations and Training Manual that Ascent built has helped us maximize our effectiveness in using the software during the transition and continues to help us in our day-to-day operations and training.”
