Rockhill is a high-end, residential general contractor that provides pre-construction services, construction management, and preventative maintenance in the greater New York City metropolitan area. They also offer design-build, architecture, and custom millwork services to their clients.

Operational Design + Procore

As part of our operational design process, Ascent performs a thorough investigation of a business, including its operational structure, finances, and Procore use. We then develop and implement standardized processes, procedures, workflows, and protocols (along with a few industry best practices) across the organization.

Ascent Consulting produces diagrams to streamline key processes and procedures.

The team at Rockhill Construction has their custom process diagrams (below) displayed in their Manhattan office. 

A definition and overhaul of business & operational practices

Rockhill's management was concerned with a lack of documented processes & best practices for their Project Management team and also needed better Procore integration with their daily business operations. After our operational recommendations were offered, they decided to overhaul their estimation process as well and engage Ascent's fractional CFO services for continued support.

Ascent began the development of a Procore training plan that gave ample time to the Operations and Accounting team to begin their investigation into Rockhill. During the Discovery Phase, we asked questions and, ultimately, learned of the software's functionality that they were not previously using to its maximum effect. This also allowed time for Ascent to provide Rockhill's management team with one-on-one coaching and support in industry best practice skills and tools.

After a review of our investigative results with the Rockhill team, Ascent was able to identify specific areas for improvement. Ascent then held workshops, onsite and virtually, designed to specifically lay out current-state/future-state processes and flow charts that enabled their team to identify new roles, processes, systems, and methods that increased productivity and profitability.

Ascent was able to detail 10 different processes and author 10 new written job descriptions—all customized to fit Rockhill’s current and future needs. Upon completion of the project, a comprehensive Operations Manual was provided that included standardized company processes, procedures, and protocols and comprehensive roles and responsibilities for the company’s current and future states.


Expanding the scope and Fractional CFO Services

Following a review with their Project Management team, Rockhill and Ascent agreed to expand the scope of the project to include their Estimation team after identifying a number of improvement areas.

Project accounting, job costing, progress billings, and budget forecasting are some of the specialized financial tasks that construction companies need to master in order to successfully navigate their projects and meet the requirements of their customers. After Rockhill realized the need for a limited-capacity CFO, they engaged Ascent for Fractional CFO Services. This now allows Rockhill to leverage the expertise of a CFO-level individual without incurring the high costs or overhead associated with a full-time employee.
