Operational Assessment & Operational Design
New insights and revised roles
Ascent was initially engaged to perform an Operational Assessment that examined over 20 facets of the business and provided a realistic, actionable plan that would allow the business to scale. After reviewing evaluations and recommendations, Apex engaged Ascent to lead the implementation process.
“Ascent’s insight into not only the business, but also the people and personalities that make up the business, exceeded our expectations. Their findings confirmed and gave voice to things I had been thinking. They provided us with new ideas and suggestions unique to our business that would enhance our performance and profitability over the coming months. In addition, our staff enjoyed the discovery process and each person is reaping the benefits of their new or revised roles and responsibilities.”

Operational Design and Implementation support through the change management process
A happier and better equipped business
Following Apex's Ascent-guided changes, they were able to shift their focus and attention to sales & business development—they now had the leadership, support, and guidance to make the needed organizational and operational adjustments.
Apex ownership reported that their staff thoroughly enjoyed and appreciated Ascent's process as it helped to clarify their roles and responsibilities, balance employee workloads, increase accountability and provide additional support for their roles. Apex reported sales that were on track to outpace the previous year and the construction department now has the capacity & ability to effectively deliver on the sales team’s increased project volume. Pool construction activities are also coordinated and performed as scheduled, and customer satisfaction has greatly improved.
The company Operations and Training Manual serves as a go-to reference guide and provides the necessary tools to ensure the Apex staff are successful. It includes tailored job narratives and descriptions for each role, detailed process diagrams for essential workflows, and Quick Reference Guides that provide step-by-step instructions on the proper use of their software platforms to effectively and efficiently execute the steps in the workflows.
Over the following six months, Ascent supported Apex as they walked through Ascent’s Operational Design process – explaining, performing, evaluating, and adjusting the plan through each phase of the process.

Ascent's Operational Design
Profitability is directly related to repeatability: getting everyone in the organization to operate the same way.
When everyone is aligned and operating in unison, then it becomes easier to add people (superintendents, project managers, estimators, accountants, administrators) and achieve consistent and repeatable results.
By getting everyone aligned and operating from the same model of processes and systems, the business becomes more efficient and easier for owners to manage.
